From Signals to Strategy
July 28th
Hello, First name / friend,
Last month, we introduced a theme: listening for the signals.
This month, we’re exploring what happens next. What can recurring leadership challenges tell us about teams and organizations? And how do we translate those signals into more deliberate development strategies?
In today's digest:
Coaches' Corner 🧭: From Signals to Strategy
What We’re Reading 📚: Uncertainty, Long-Term Thinking, and Emotional Agility
The Podcast 🔊: Reclaiming Our Narratives and Leadership Lessons from the Cockpit
What We’re Building 🛠️: Connecting Leadership Development Across the Organization
P.S. If you're getting this email, it's because you're one of the valued folks we've worked with, collaborated with, or connected with over the years. If it’s not your thing, feel free to unsubscribe at the bottom—no offense taken. But if you’re curious to stick around, we’re glad you’re here!
Our “Listening for the Signals” series began with the familiar phrase, “I just need to…” Since then, we’ve explored two more signals that frequently emerge in coaching and the workplace.
"Crying in Coaching" considers what strong emotions may be communicating before we rush to contain or explain them.
“Even Our Brains Need Zoomies Sometimes" looks at why strategic thinking, creativity, and pattern recognition require cognitive space that many workplaces fail to protect.
Our latest article steps back to consider the broader pattern. When the same leadership challenges appear repeatedly, the answer may involve more than individual development. It may point toward the team, culture, or organizational system surrounding the leader.

What We're Reading
Uncertainty, Long-Term Thinking, and Emotional Agility
This month’s books sit at the intersection of uncertainty, strategy, and emotional regulation. These are deeply human subjects, but they are also essential leadership capabilities in organizations navigating complexity and change.
An exploration of how greater comfort with uncertainty can improve our thinking, creativity, and decision-making.
A practical guide to creating space for strategic work and continuing to invest in goals whose results may take time.
A flexible, research-informed toolkit for managing emotions and choosing the right strategy for the situation.

Our two latest episodes approach leadership and personal development from very different directions: creative writing and fighter aviation. Both explore how people create meaning, examine their assumptions, and develop practices that help them move through uncertainty with greater intention.
Author, creative coach, and facilitator GG Renee Hill returns to discuss her book, Story Work: Field Notes on Self-Discovery and Reclaiming Your Narrative. The discussion explores how writing can help us examine inherited beliefs, reconnect with our values, quiet the inner critic, and make room for imperfect creative expression.
Christian “Boo” Boucousis, CEO of Afterburner and a former fighter pilot, shares practical leadership frameworks developed in fighter aviation and refined through two decades in business, including systems thinking, debriefing, and adapting under pressure.

Development That Reaches Beyond the Individual
The signals we’ve been noticing are shaping the next phase of Two Piers.
We’re expanding our work across individual coaching, team coaching, leadership cohorts, workshops, and organizational consulting. The goal is to help organizations design holistic solutions that match the moment.
We’re also piloting a new administrative platform to make onboarding, scheduling, packages, and billing easier for our coaching clients.
If you’re thinking about how to strengthen leadership capability across your organization, drop us a note or reply to this email. We’d love to hear what you’re seeing.

We’re grateful to be on this journey with you!
May the rest of your summer give you the space to look up from the tasks at hand to glimpse the horizon ahead.
